CHADDS FORD, Pennsylvania (March 27, 2024) - 2-Piece Tiger Maple Highboy Brings $42,500 at Bunch Auctions, Leads Fine & Decorative Arts Auction Past $345,000.
William Bunch Auctions is thrilled to announce the outstanding success of its Fine & Decorative Arts auction held on March 26th. With an array of furniture of all ages and styles, fine art & sculpture, international silver, stunning jewelry and other treasures. The assemblage captivated bidders and achieved remarkable results, surpassing all expectations.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the sale of a remarkable 2-piece tiger maple highboy, which garnered an impressive $42,500. This exquisite piece riveted collectors with its impeccable craftsmanship and timeless elegance, setting the tone for a truly memorable auction for the record books.
The fine art department was led by a magnificent Warren Rohrer (American, 1927-1995) still life entitled “Pitcher of Apple Blossoms.” The oil on canvas sold for $10,000 before premiums.
Other fine art standouts included a Hermann Herzog (American, 1832-1932) landscape painting that sold for $9,000, a Thomas Worthington Whittredge (American, 1820-1910) miniature titled “"A Pic-Nic, Italy" that realized $6,000, and a Bo Barlett (American, b 1955) oil on board that realized $7,000.
Another noteworthy lot was the sale of a rare Chinese export silver lobed and handled bowl retailed by Wing Cheong, Hong Kong. The bowl fetched an impressive $7,000, reflecting the strong demand for exceptional pieces of Chinese silver craftsmanship.
Rare books & works on paper were a hot commodity, led by a first edition copy of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave (Boston, 1845), which realized $12,500. The collective category of ~30 books brought over $40,000.
